There's a new sheriff in town and ... well no, not really, but there are three new linky parties in Quilty Blogland that I think you all will enjoy. I'll start with Heidi's, since it is somewhat time sensitive.
One Monthly Goal
My talented friend Heidi, of Red Letter Quilts, was left feeling bereft when ALYoF (A Lovely Year of Finishes) ended. But she didn't stay sad for too long, because inspiration struck!
Heidi is kicking off a new linky party this week, called One Monthly Goal. Its aim is that people can set one quilt related goal at the start of each month, share it in the linky party during the first week of the month and cheer each other on. Then, during the last week of the month, return and share their accomplished goal. To top it off, Heidi is going to offer a chance to win a prize each month for those who link up both times. My one monthly goal should therefore be baby related, but I have something I need to take care of before I can do any more quilting. My sewing area is a completely discombobulated wreck. I'll just show you one corner of the room, because if anything expresses what I've done, this does:

...and yes, the whole room is like this. So this is my goal for January - to make a place for everything, to put things away neatly, and to destash, sell, or give away things that I no longer think I will use. I normally spend way too much time hopping around blogland, but this week I am going to buckle down and get 'er done! Hopefully, starting the year off well organized will make a big difference in my ability to accomplish other goals.

The other new linky party I'd like to tell you about is being hosted by my charming friend France, of inspiration imagination creation. She has started a linky party called Fabric, Thread and Yarn.
So many of you love to do many kinds of needle arts, not just quilting. I see beautiful creations in stitchery, knitting, and crocheting all the time while visiting around blogland. So this linky party ought to knock your socks off! Or on. :)

I just attacked the closet in my sewing room which was looking a lot like that pile. Now the rest of the room isin a mess and I'm going to have to clean it before I do anymore sewing. I have a book called something like "It's In Here...Somewhere," but I can't find it at the moment! I read it before, but I don't think it stuck. I need to pull it out and read it again.

I couldn't help but laugh when I saw the 'book' in the middle of the pile. It looks like it is actually helping. That is helping keep the pile from falling over. I need to address my own assortment(mess) before it becomes a disaster.
ReplyDeleteI cleaned my sewing room once and it was amazing, but then my creativity came back and "let the mess begin". LOL. I love the book and I wish you told us it did work through osmosis, I'd have them scattered all over the house. Can't wait for Eden's arrival, she's one lucky baby :)

When I saw your corner of your sewing room first photo, I immediately saw the book. Thought: Lara's book!!! She's got a pre-release copy! :-) Think I could use that book in my sewing area right about now...in the Brady sews post I was going to write for everyone to please ignore the mess and chaos behind him, but then I thought that would draw attention to it, and hoped his adorable face would steal the show so no one would notice! So so excited for you and your family for Eden's arrival. Let's see, I have 2 days to figure out something for OMG. Love that. Have fun sorting out your chaos. Mine will be sorted by week's end...going to Florida does have its extra advantages. ;-)

ReplyDeleteI do like to look at a pile made of various and interesting things. A ball of yarn--for your daughter or yourself ?!? A brown bag--one can only wonder what is hidden in it. Fabric. A book claiming that tidying magically change your life--I have strong doubts about that. lol A book with no visible title--about quilting? An embroidery loop--do you have a project for the fabric that is just under it? More fabric. Magazines. A block made of tiny squares--they look like they measure less than 1", if that is possible...

In other news, my own copy of The Art of Tidying Up should be arriving any day. It seems to be sweeping the blogosphere (nothing like January to get people interested in organizing...)
