Elephant Parade Quilt Along - Week 1

Elephant Parade Quilt fabrics
Today's the Day!  The Elephant Parade Quilt Along has started and Lorna, at Sew Fresh Quilts has released the directions for the first block: the Large Elephant.  Lorna did a great job designing the pattern and this quilt is going to be soooo cute!

I've had a hard time resisting several terrific quilt alongs.  But, since more than a few baby quilts are on my "To Do" list I thought it would be smart to join in with this one.   Life being what it is, it's certain that I will not finish it in time, but one nice thing about this quilt along is that the link up for the finished quilts will not close.  Plus, Lorna has set up a permanent tab for the quilt along.  It that great or what?!  Head on over and join the fun!

My fabrics came yesterday.  I ordered from Fabric.com and wow was I surprised when I opened the box.  Apparently they have a thing where, if your order comes within a half yard of being near the end of the bolt, they say you hit the "Jackpot" and they give you the remaining fabric for no extra charge.  I must have been very lucky the day they were cut, because I hit the "Jackpot" three times... LOL.  Thank you Fabric.com!

For the front of the quilt, I'm using Pepper Cory's Peppered Cottons and just love them!   I picked out Oyster, Blue Jay, Cherry, Emerald, Sunny Aqua, Lake, and Charcoal,   And for the back, I'm using Lorna's inspiration fabric: Happy Elephants in Grey by Ed Emberley for Cloud9 Fabrics, which is just the sweetest fabric.   I can easily see what inspired the Elephant Parade quilt.

So ... Not that we need any further temptation... but have you joined any fun quilt alongs yet this year?  Or... (I'm playing with fire here, LOL.)  Do you have plans to join any that are soon to come?

Thanks for visiting!
Lara

  4. This is a fun quilt indeed... I wish I was in need of a baby quilt ... You picked beautiful colors and can't wait to see it progress. I hit the "Jackpot" myself a few times at fabric.com but never three times in the same order ... Lucky you :-)

  12. I was tempted by this pattern but I had already entered Deana's Shimmer Braid QAL (dreamworthyquilts.blogspot.ca). Which is a queen size quilt. And I plan to make Delectable Mountains soon with your pp patterns. I'll pass on this one for now (but keeping it in a corner of my memory). I'm looking forward to seeing your version, though. I'm sure it will be gorgeous.

  13. I did Canuck Quilter's Snowalong, made 3 into pillows, but still have 4 blocks in need of a "home"...have an idea to add 2 or 4 more and make them into a small quilt. I've done several Scrap-a-Palooza quilts at Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework. I think Lorna's Elephant Parade is too cute (and I love elephants, so it's tempting) but I'm trying to behave and finish up/start and finish up several projects that have piled up here. I've never heard of Peppered Cottons, although I sure do know Pepper Cory (from "Simply Qults"). They look really lovely; I love your colour choices. Yay, for hitting the jackpot 3 times! What a great incentive (and you know how we spread the word, good and bad) tool for a quilt shop to have.

  15. I haven't joined any QAL yet...I usually join in during the summer months when I'm off from school. I really wanted to create this elephant parade but don't think I'm going to be able to right now...but that's okay!! I'll enjoy watching for now. :)

  21. I love the pattern Lorna put together and I am trying to resist. Too many things on the list and not nearly enough time to get everything done.
